Mascaras are something I lack in my makeup collection. I went ahead and picked this up from Farmers where it retails for $28.50nzd. I’ve always loved Revlon as a brand and have tried many products which sometimes worked and sometimes didn’t work for me. So naturally, I was very eager to give this a go and see how I feel.
The Ultra Volume Mascara range comes in 4 colors which are black, blackest black, blackened brown and blackest black waterproof. First up; let’s take a look at what Revlon claims this mascara does.
“Conditioning formula volumizes lashes. Revlon Lash Plumping Brush: – Triple grooves designed to hold formula for maximum volume – Short and long bristles designed to comb every lash and eliminate clumps.”
The packaging is minimalist and features a very pretty vibrant purple top. The bottle feels matte to touch and I do love the feel of it. However, it is different to your traditional round packaging. You can clearly see the shape of it pictured above. The brush is very easy to take out of the bottle itself and is very thick. The best way to apply this is to mix the product to get the most use out of it.
The formula is slightly watery and quick drying so you have to work with it fairly quickly. It does have a very chemical like smell to it. I honestly don’t mind this because it isn’t “in your face” strong and only smells if you deliberately smell the formula. I was put off with its brush when I first saw it but I’ve gotten used to it now. This mascara does everything you expect a good mascara to do especially for its price. Although the brush itself is thick, it defines and separates every lash with ease. As the formula is more on the watery side, you do have to be a bit more careful to not get it smudged onto your skin. Even if this happens, just let the mascara dry; grab a wet cotton bud and rub it off. The best thing this does is that it provides length and adds A LOT of volume. I don’t know about you but I can’t use fake lashes myself no matter how hard I try. So, this is the top most trait I look for in mascaras. I prefer to use this more when I like to go all out with my makeup and more so when I prefer to have my eyes as the center of attention. The only down side here is that because of the brush it can be quite hard to focus on the inner top and bottom lashes because the hairs are so tiny.
So, would I recommend this to my family and friends? Would I recommend this mascara to you as a reader? Hell to the yes!! This is an amazing mascara specially for its price. Ofcourse, the only down side is that it is a little hard to focus on the shorter hairs but we can all live with that. I will definitely be repurchasing this one.
